Distinguished Young Women seeks Summer Interns


Mobile, AL – Distinguished Young Women National Headquarters has several internship openings for the Summer 2011 semester beginning in May. The Summer term is an exciting time to be on board with Distinguished Young Women as we prepare for and celebrate the 54th National Finals, a two week long event culminating in the selection of the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2011. Opportunities are available in several different areas of study and internships can be completed for college credit.

Marketing/Event Planning Internship:
Marketing/Event Planning Interns assist the National Field Director with day to day activities which include but are not limited to: recruiting and managing over 17,000 volunteers from across the nation, event planning, organizing, researching, creating and managing information databases, creating and sending mailing and correspondence, and assisting with state program development. This is an opportunity for a student to gain valuable real-world experience and to learn about the many different facets of running and working for a national non-profit corporation. Additionally, interns will have opportunities in other areas of service as needed.

Public Relations Internship:
Public Relations Interns assist the Communications Director by: compiling media lists; monitoring and collecting media coverage; writing and distributing press releases; working to coordinate materials for the Distinguished Young Women National Finals (media kits, media teasers, signs and banners, name tags, car decals, autograph cards, special invitations/tickets, etc); organizing, setting up, and attending events; chaperoning Distinguished Young Women participants to media appearances; researching information requests and providing assistance to media outlets and other parties; and updating the Distinguished Young Women website. Additionally, as a non-profit organization, Distinguished Young Women uses interns in other areas of service as needed.

Social Media Internship:
Social Media Interns assist the Communications Director with all of the organization’s social media operations which includes but is not limited to Facebook, Twitter, blogs, Linkedin, YouTube, etc. Social Media Interns are responsible for monitoring each social media outlet on a daily basis, creating new ways to utilize social media for the good of the organization, and researching additional social media outlets that Distinguished Young Women should use. Additionally, as a non-profit organization, Distinguished Young Women uses interns in other areas of service as needed.

Development/Event Coordinator Internship:
Development/Event Coordinator interns assist the Development Director with day to day activities which include, but are not limited to sorting and preparing packets for sponsors, sponsor visits, creating and managing information databases, organizing promotional materials, creating and sending mailings and correspondence, event planning, answering phones and greeting guests as needed. Interns will also be expected to help with organizing, setting up, and attending events, chaperoning Distinguished Young Women participants to media appearances, and researching information requests. Additionally, as a non-profit organization, Distinguished Young Women uses interns in other areas of service as needed.
