2010 PRELIMINARY AWARDS

The 53rd AJM National Finals began on Thursday, June 24, with the first preliminary of competition. Satellite scholarship awards were presented to members of the AJM Class of 2010 at the end of the night.

  • Betsy Plemons of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Julia Springate of Louisville, Kentucky received the Betty Copeland My Town Awards presented by Wintzell’s Oyster House. Each of them received a $1,000 cash scholarship. Download photo.
  • Meredith Gaufin of Provo, Utah received the Bel Air Mall Community Service Essay award for $1,500.
  • Arianne Leavitt of Mesa, Arizona received the Press-Register Daily Journal Award for $1,000. Read Arianne’s essay here. Download photo.
  • Be Your Best Self Essay Awards for $1,000 each were awarded to Katelyn von Diezelski of West Monroe, Louisiana; Nina Montgomery of Ridgewood, New Jersey; and Megan Wood of Washington, Missouri. Download photo.
  • Hilary Hoyt of Maine was awarded the Saad Development Has Been Award. Hoyt was Maine’s Junior Miss 2009 and is currently a student at the University of Maine where she is a member of the UMaine Dance Team, president of the Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society, and recipient of the National Sorority Award for the highest grade point average. The second night of preliminary competitions will continue on Friday, June 25. Scholarships will be presented at the conclusion of the program.

The Class of 2010 will compete for a share of $135,000 in cash scholarships and the overall title at the 53rd Annual National Finals on June 26. The program will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. June 26 at www.local15tv.com. Tickets are available at www.ajm.org or by calling 251-438-3621.
