LPGA Legend Jan Stephenson to Take Part in 2009 AJM Finals

LPGA Legend Jan Stephenson has accepted an opportunity with America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program to volunteer as a judge in the national Finals in Mobile on June 25, 26 & 27, 2009.

Jan Stephenson is an international golf superstar. Jan began her golf career in her native Australia before joining the LPGA Tour. She has 16 LPGA career victories, including 3 LPGA major championships. In addition to the LPGA Tour, Jan competes on The Legends Tour, the Official Senior Tour of the LPGA, where she currently is the career money leader having won 6 Legends events, most recently the 2009 Women’s Handa Akira Cup in Japan. In 2008, Jan won the Handa Australia Cup. Jan is also an award winning golf course designer who has designed golf courses around the world.

Other Judges include Tyrenda Williams, America’s Junior Miss 1997; Edward Jones, Music Director of Mozart Society Orchestra at Harvard University; Bob Hartnagel, Chief of Staff to California Senator Mark Leo; and Mary Anna Austin Dennard, an award winning actress and college audition coach for acting and musical theater.

“We believe that Ms. Stephenson was a natural strategic fit with our campaign of Be Your Best Self,” said Becky Jo Peterson, Executive Director of the AJM. “Be Your Best Self stresses the importance of living a healthy, successful life and promotes literacy, physical fitness, and community service. Jan is the epitome of those things and we are excited to have her helping in selecting the next America’s Junior Miss.”

“As a representative of the athletic arena, Ms. Stephenson will be an important addition to the fitness category. Her own transition from a top professional athlete to a successful business woman will enable the contestants to see just what is possible to achieve,” continued Ms. Peterson.

Ms. Stephenson says she is honored to be part of the program, “I was excited to have been invited. However, since I have been educated on the talent of these young women, I am honored to think that I may have the opportunity to influence these leaders of the future.”
“All week I will have the challenge of evaluating their performances in all the categories. It is going to be fun and a new addition to an already vastly experienced and varied career.”
