Although I’ve been in such jarringly different countries and backdrops these past few years, I’ve always been grounded by the sense of self that Junior Miss helped instill in me.

AJM has taught me the meaning of passion for something without return; it has taught me the true meaning of selflessness. In the words of each participant, “I am not a winner from a group of representatives, but rather a representative from a group of winners.” This positive attitude is the light and heart of why AJM is a successful program. It reflects all the goodness, kindness, and purity that our society can have. Because of my experiences in this program I am someone who is happy with who she is for I have been allowed to explore me, making me feel more comfortable in my own skin and nobody else’s. It has truly brought out the best in me that I never even knew existed.

Junior Miss celebrates the individual beauty of womanhood! You get girls from different backgrounds with different interests, talents, and body types, and through the Junior Miss experience we recognize that our unique qualities make us who we are and that by developing those talents we can do whatever it is we put our minds to! Junior Miss helps young women see their true worth as a contributing member of society and inspires them to reach their potential!

Who would have known that a week away from home with an unfamiliar family and 66 other girls would be one of the greatest highlights of my life? The Junior Miss Program is exactly that. It not only helped to develop the person I am today, but also gave me new best friends from all the counties in Alabama.
Annie Spears, Geneva County 2000
