Fourteen young women from around the state will compete for a share of $10,000 in cash scholarships this weekend during the Wisconsin’s Junior Miss Program at Franklin Community Center in Menomonee Falls. One of the young women will be selected to represent Wisconsin at the 52nd AJM National Finals in Mobile, Alabama, where she will be eligible for a share of $150,000 in cash scholarships, college granted scholarships to more than 200 colleges and universities and the title of America’s Junior Miss 2009.
The young women vying for the state title are: Melissa Dobrinska, New Berlin West; Kelsie Niffenegger - Waldo; Monica Meyer - South Milwaukee; Erica Narloch - Oconomowoc; Katelyn Nagel - Waukesha West; Missy Meier - Oak Creek; Bekah Newman - Menomonee Falls; Amanda Batterman - Appleton; Christina Wallhausser - Waukesha South; Danielle Dounar - Cudahy; Samantha LaBrasca - Brookfield; Nicole Zielinski - New Berlin East; Laura Johnson - New London; Ashley Pfister - Franklin.
The fourteen young women will be in Franklin all week as they prepare for the program, participate in service activities within the community, and attend an event to hear a speech from Mayor Taylor. Each Junior Miss will also have opportunities throughout the week to promote AJM’s Be Your Best Self program, an effort to encourage self esteem in all young people.
Jordan Kirkegaard, Wisconsin's Junior Miss 2008, will also perform during the program, along with Nora Ali, America’s Junior Miss 2007. Jordan recently returned from Mobile, Alabama, where she represented Wisconsin at the 51st AJM National Finals. She will attend Butler University in the fall to study communications.
This weekend’s program will take place on Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Menomonee Falls North Junior High School. Tickets are available and can be obtained by calling Sue Herman at 414-525-9283.
