Our 2009 New Mexico's Junior Miss is Mayela Arrieta, from Los Lunas. In our competition, her performance earned 4 separate awards, for a total of $2,250.00 in cash scholarships and, of course, the opportunity to compete at the next level of Junior Miss competition.

Mayela's achievements include: Various awards for different community service • Academic letter 9th, 10th, 11th,12th • Honor Roll since 9th • Award for being one of the most helpful with prom • Awards for singing at schools • Most Improved Varsity runner 10th; cross country • Most Dedicated Varsity runner 11th; cross country • Award for Outstanding Achievement in HS from UNM • Recognition from Who's Who Among American Students • Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Scholarship

In addition, Mayela's activities include: Co-director for church choir • Catechist aide since 10th grade • Singing Mariachi music • Cross country from 9-12, captain 11 and 12 • Track 9th and 10th • Tutoring since 11th grade • NHS member 10th and 11th, Vice Pres. 12th • Choir for two semesters • Band 9th • Class President all four years
